1. “Panels work the same everywhere.”

Production depends on local sunlight, shade, roof orientation, temperature, system design and maintenance. Ask for a site-specific estimate with the assumptions shown, not a generic result presented as certain.

2. “Solar means you are off-grid.”

Many systems remain connected to the utility grid. A grid-connected array may shut down during an outage unless it is designed and approved for backup operation. Ask which circuits a battery can support and under what conditions.

3. “A battery always pays for itself.”

Battery value depends on installed cost, rates, export rules, backup needs, usable capacity, replacement and financing. Ask for a transparent comparison and consider whether backup capability—not a claimed bill outcome—is the main goal.

4. “The roof does not matter.”

Roof condition and remaining life can affect project timing and cost. Shading, access, structural capacity and electrical layout also need review. Ask whether repairs should happen before installation and how the scope handles them.

5. “The advertised payment is the total cost.”

A monthly amount may leave out fees, escalators, upfront costs, service obligations or contract conditions. Compare complete written terms and ask how a sale, move or early payoff is handled.

Replace slogans with evidence

The best answer is specific to the home, location, utility and contract. A qualified provider should be able to explain limitations and welcome thoughtful comparison. If an important claim cannot be documented, treat it as a question—not a fact.
