Compare the full project cost
Ask for an itemized scope that separates equipment, labor, electrical work, permits, roof work and optional storage. Confirm what is excluded, what might change after a site survey and how any change would be approved.
If financing is proposed, compare the total amount paid over the full term—not only a monthly figure. Review interest, fees, payment schedules, required deposits and consequences of missed payments. Understand whether the stated cash price differs from the financed price.
Read the contract and assumptions
Check who owns the equipment, who is responsible for maintenance and what happens if you sell or refinance the home. A lease, loan, power-purchase arrangement and cash purchase can create different responsibilities. Ask for time to review the documents independently.
Estimates of energy production or bill changes depend on assumptions about the roof, weather, utility rates, system performance and household use. Ask to see those assumptions and how uncertainty is represented. Do not treat a modeled outcome as a guarantee.
Check local rules and independent advice
Incentives, utility arrangements, consumer protections and tax treatment vary by location and can change. Confirm current details with the relevant authority and a qualified independent adviser. This guide makes no claim that any specific incentive is available.
Compare more than one complete proposal when practical. Prefer clear explanations, written answers and a chance to pause over pressure to sign quickly. A sound decision should still make sense after you understand the costs, risks and alternatives.
